Manchester Law Firm Earns Its Stripes in Prestigious Legal Guide

Manchester law firm Stripes is celebrating its debut in the prestigious Legal 500 guide.

All four of the firm’s commercial departments – corporate, commercial litigation, employment and commercial property – were listed in the 2010 guide, with senior lawyers in each department being individually named.

Entry to this year’s guide follows a period of growth at Stripes which recruited a number of senior lawyers from some of the big regional firms to further expand into the corporate and commercial markets.

Earlier this year Stripes was a finalist in the small law firm category at the inaugural Manchester Legal Awards.

Manchester Law Firm Stripes Advises All & Small

MANCHESTER law firm Stripes has advised the shareholders of domiciliary care agency, All & Small Limited, in the sale of the business.

The West-Midlands-based company was bought by national care agency, Carewatch Care Services Limited, for an undisclosed sum.

Stephen Jarman, who led the corporate team at Stripes, said: “We were delighted to advise the shareholders of All & Small on the sale of the company to Carewatch.

“All & Small is an excellent strategic fit with Carewatch and the deal will further enhance the level of service and care provided to its customers.

David Everatt of accountants Forrester Boyd also advised the All & Small shareholders. Carewatch was advised by Tom Bruce of Farrer & Co LLP in London.

The firm is taking 6,500 sq ft in Ship Canal House and is looking to complete the move next week.

It has been a year of much growth and expansion at Stripes which has significantly strengthened its presence on the corporate and commercial legal scene after making a number of strategic appointments.

Stripes lines up move to King Street

AMBITIOUS law firm Stripes today confirmed plans to move offices in Manchester city centre from John Dalton Street to Ship Canal House on King Street, the former home of Cobbetts.

Stripes is taking 6,500 sq ft and is looking to complete the move next week.

Stripes set sail for Ship Canal House

EXPANDING law firm  Stripes Solicitors is moving to new offices on King Street, Manchester.
The firm is taking 6,500 sq ft in Ship Canal House and is looking to complete the move from John Dallton Street next week.
Despte the recession, which has hit many of the larger firms in the legal sector hard, Stripes has made a number of key appointments this year.
Managing Director Andrew Stripe said the move would give the firm more room to grow and allow it to serve its clients better.
He said: “The move to new premises reflects our strategy of investing in a team of highly skilled senior lawyers to take advantage of the changing legal landscape and offer our clients a personal and value for money service.
“Having outgrown our current premises the move will provide additional space for growth. Ship Canal House is an iconic building which been refurbished and modernised to a high standard, and will provide improved facilities for staff and clients alike.”
This year has seen the recruitment of corporate lawyer Melanie Yeomans from
Nexus and head of real estate Andrew Dunn arrived from Cobbetts.
Mark Lewis set up the firm’s new media and sport division after joining from George Davies.
The employment team was strengthened by the arrival of director Daniel Rubin from Addleshaw Goddard, and Tony Winterburn, who was previously head of litigation at JMW Solicitors, bolstered the litigation department.

What happens at an employment tribunal

gavelDisputes between employer and employee are usually dealt with by an Employment Tribunal (ET).

The case is decided by the ET at a public hearing (unless an application for a closed hearing due to matters confidential has been granted) and is heard by an ET judge and two lay members. The judge is a solicitor or a barrister and the lay members each represent management and trade unions respectively.

You do not need to be legally represented, although nowadays the complexity of employment law is such that most employers instruct solicitors as soon as they receive the claim, if not before. (more…)
