Melanie is a solicitor and director in the Company and Commercial Team. Melanie focuses specifically on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions work. She advises owner managed businesses and entrepreneurs across a variety of sectors on fund raisings and investments and on acquisitions, disposals and restructuring of businesses. Melanie also advises on shareholder and corporate governance issues as well as partnership matters, including advice to LLPs.
Originally from Cumbria, Melanie trained with the international law firm Clifford Chance with whom she spent a number of years post qualification working in both London and Paris. Melanie joined Stripes in January 2009 from Nexus Solicitors in Manchester where she was a partner in the corporate team.

What's your Desert Island book and film?
Book: How to be a Domestic Goddess (Nigella Lawson); Can I have 2 films? An Affair to Remember (Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr) and Sex and the City.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To know before anyone else when the Harvey Nics sale is due to start.

Tell us one fact about you that would surprise people.
I’m rather good at baking cakes (see favourite book above).

If you could live the life of a famous historical figure, who would it be?
Cleopatra. All that bathing in milk all day!

What is your most treasured possession?
My beautiful little niece and handsome little nephew, Lucy and Jamie (not really “possessions” but very treasured).

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Good health is everything.
